Fairbanks Pain Clinic - Vertebral subluxations are misalignments in one or more areas of the spine. These misalignments are understood by chiropractors to produce different indications and health issues. A chiropractor's diagnosis of a vertebral subluxation must not be confused with another type of health professional's diagnosis of a spinal subluxation.

Chiropractic is based on the premise that a host of issues can develop consisting of different muscle groups, nerve functions, and bodily organs because of the misalignment of the skeletal structure. Vertebral subluxations can appear to be relatively small, but can be creating a number of health issues within the body which do not necessarily appear to be related to each other.

Chiropractors depend on physical examinations and X-rays to be able to determine the presence of vertebral subluxations. The chiropractor's objective is to look for any parts of the spine which are not in alignment, and can lead to pain when touched. The chiropractor's physical exam would even comprise testing the individual's range of motion.

After the vertebral subluxations have been diagnose by the chiropractor, they will, utilizing a series of techniques, make adjustments to the spinal column to help restore proper alignment. Since a vertebral subluxation would take place slowly over time, there may be numerous sessions needed to restore correct alignment of the spinal column. As the treatments progress, the person must experience an alleviation of symptoms.

Not all health care professionals consider vertebral subluxations to be the cause of several symptoms throughout the body. If this were the case, the chiropractic technique will be ineffectual at correcting problems. Then again, chiropractic patients have noticed a variety of health improvements ranging from the alleviation of nasal congestion to elimination of muscle tingling.
